Together for Recovery: Supporting Affected Families in Kherson Oblast
Roof Restoration in Kherson: A Joint Project of Peaceful heaven of Kharkiv and Stichting Vluchteling
Each restored home is a step toward stability and safety for Ukrainians affected by the war. Due to constant shelling and destruction in Kherson, many houses were left without roofs, posing a serious threat to residents, especially during the fall and winter.
In collaboration with Stichting Vluchteling, a comprehensive housing recovery program was implemented, including:
- The restoration of 288 damaged roofs in 2024
- The delivery of 150 shelter kits to Kherson OVA in January 2025 for continued repairs
- 438 site visits for damage assessment and aid provision
The shelter kits contained building materials for emergency roof repairs: tarps, tents, plywood, battens, fasteners, and tools. This enabled residents to either repair their homes on their own or with the help of our specialists, protecting them from the elements.
In addition to providing materials, mobile teams conducted site visits to assess damage and assist in roof restoration. A key aspect of the work was the speed of response—given the unstable security situation, assistance had to be provided immediately.
The Importance of Partnership and Mutual Aid
The roof restoration project in Kherson is a prime example of how international support and local expertise can work together to achieve a common goal. Thanks to our collaboration with Stichting Vluchteling, we were able to quickly supply people with the necessary resources for housing restoration.
We thank Stichting Vluchteling for their trust, support, and joint efforts, which are helping people return to safe living conditions in their homes.
