Livelihood Project: Supporting Agricultural Development in Communities
The charitable foundation Peaceful heaven of Kharkiv has launched a pilot Livelihood project aimed at supporting people in communities engaged in agriculture. Recently, a training session on "Plant Cultivation in Greenhouses. Soil Fertilization" was held for residents of the Chuhuiv, Malynivka, and Chkalivka communities.
Residents of Kamianka in the Izyum district say that such initiatives are crucial because people living and working in de-occupied or frontline communities need support.
"Our village was occupied for more than six months, and there are many unexploded ordnance here. We simply cannot work in the fields, so we have turned to greenhouses to grow vegetables," says local resident Larisa.
During the training, conducted by lecturers from the V.V. Dokuchaev Kharkiv National Agrarian University, various topics were covered, including how to select hybrid varieties, the best crops to grow, where to buy seeds, and how to properly plant and fertilize.
"We knew some things, but there was a lot we didn't know, and we've taken this information to heart. The conversation was interesting and meaningful. We plan to stay here and work on the land we love, as this is our soil," adds Larisa.
As part of the Livelihood project, supported by the United Nations World Food Programme, participants will have the opportunity to attend training sessions and receive technical or financial assistance to develop their farms.
The training will cover areas such as greenhouse crop cultivation, soil fertilization, effective livestock farming, veterinary care, and marketing.
