On April 5, 2022, the UN recognized Ukraine as the most mined country in Europe. According to various estimates, the process of complete demining will take from 7 to 15 years.

Starting from February 24, 2022, the problem of mines and explosive remnants of war has become particularly relevant. In 2014, about 16,000 square kilometers of land in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions needed cleaning. According to preliminary estimates, it is already about 80 thousand square kilometers of the territory of Ukraine.

The main goal of the project SAFE LAND is to create a multidisciplinary structure of socially oriented demining of agricultural lands. So people will have the option to prepare agricultural land for safe use. It's necessary to completely clean the farms of all metal and explosive objects: mines, shells, bomb fragments, etc.

We planned to involve former military personnel who, for various reasons, cannot perform combat tasks for this work. This work will enable them to speed up the socialization phase and continue to provide for their families.

This project involves opening branches in Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Dnipro to cover the largest possible territory for demining in three main directions: north, west, and south. Also, this project involves the development of unique technology means that will speed up the search and marking of dangerous areas on agricultural land.

Even now, units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the State Emergency Service, and other structures are risking their lives, carrying out demining, operations in de-occupied territories. However, the main work will begin after the complete withdrawal of Russian troops from the territory of Ukraine.

The discovery process of finding and demining all explosive remnants of war on  Ukrainian lands can take 8-10 years case of using existing methods. It is also necessary to attract a large number of specialists around the world. Any solution that will speed up, Secure, or automate this process will be considered a promising task that requires modern technical solutions to be used.

Agricultural land is undoubtedly the main priority area for demining, as agriculture is currently the flagship of the state economy.

Stages of the project

Safe land

1. Collection of information:

- the demining process is regulated by the legislation of Ukraine and requires mandatory certification;

- a collection of technical requirements for sappers' uniforms, equipment, and transport;

- number of square kilometers of land in Kharkiv region that needs demining.

2. Organization of a private demining operator:

We planned to receive the necessary certificates for the following types of activities:

- non-technical examination;

- technical examination;

- demining by hand;

- demining using machines and mechanisms.

3. Purchase of necessary equipment:

- the estimated cost of one minesweeper is €3,500;

- the estimated cost of one apparatus for detecting aerial bombs and projectiles is €10,700;

- the cost of one vehicle for searching and marking explosive objects is UAH 1,817,740;

- the uniform of one sapper can cost $5,500.

4. Modernization of special devices:

- Development and implementation of a motorized mine detector needed to speed up, facilitate and organize the safety of searching and marking dangerous areas on agricultural land.

5. Risks and work with them:

Risk of shelling or missile attack. It can damage the integrity of the devices, so the purchased equipment will be stored in different areas of the city.

6. Intermediate control:

- Photo and video recording of each purchased device with subsequent storage on Google Drive;

- a demining assistance form (we record the full name, passport data, place of residence, etc of each person who receives assistance).
